PTSD, in other words, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, is a condition characterized by feeling helplessness, intense fear or horror resulting from extreme trauma. In this case, due to the 9/11 terror, Charlie Finemen has lost all members of his family. Accordingly, Charlie suffers from extremely tribulating memories. Looking at his symptoms that arose after the traumatic event, such as having a hard time consisting a stable social relationships, I would classify his behavior as a PTSD.

Looking more deeply into his symptoms, Charlie is trapped in the world of his own. He refuses to talk to peers about family and doesn’t accept the subject of death. He also has hard time maintaining his social life due to his fear of being judged. Furthermore, Charlie Finemen feels the meaningless guilt about his existence. Hence, the most ideal treatment for Charlie Finemen would be a method of using a Cognitive- Behavioral Therapy. By using CBT, Charlie will be able to change his set concept and thoughts about his traumatic event. It will be easier for him to accept the event by replacing his thoughts to less agonizing and more accurate thoughts. He will learn a way to cope with his anger, disappointment, and frustration, at the same time, remove his unreasonable guilt.

If I am a friend of Charlie Finemen and possible support for him, I would let his set concept about traumatic event change. I would let him know that others really feel that it isn’t Charlie’s fault at all and help with how he thinks about the world and the part that angers him. I would talk about how important he is to others and remove his guilt about own existence.
